Jerry “Kokane” Long Jr. grew up in Pomona, California, the son of a Motown composer and a singer, and started cutting records in 1984. Signed to Ruthless Records in 1989 after teaming up with Cold 187um, he became a co-writer for N.W.A and Above The Law before going solo — his half-sung, half-rapped delivery helping invent the G-funk sound alongside Above The Law. He's since shown up all over the West Coast canon, most notably on Dr. Dre's 2001 and Snoop Dogg's Tha Last Meal.
