Formed in Pomona in late 1989 by Cold 187um, KMG, Go Mack and DJ Total K-Oss, Above The Law signed to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records the same year. Their debut, Livin’ Like Hustlers (1990), blended funk and soul samples with live playing and featured production from Dr. Dre — Cold 187um has long maintained the group's sound was the actual blueprint for G-funk, not the other way around. They left Ruthless in 1996, and Cold 187um went on to produce for Death Row in Dre's old chair.
