Robert Greene Jr. built his name out of Hayward, California starting in 1991, becoming one of the defining voices of the early Bay Area hip-hop scene under Jive Records. Three albums in a row went gold — his self-titled 1992 debut, 187 He Wrote (1993), and AmeriKKKa's Nightmare (1994) — hard, funk-driven records that helped put the Bay on the map right alongside LA and Compton during rap's golden era.
