Tracy Marrow took his stage name from writer Iceberg Slim and released his first single in 1983; his 1986 track “6 ‘N the Mornin’” is widely cited as a founding record of gangsta rap, tracing a line straight to 2Pac and Biggie after him. Power (1988) went platinum, and O.G. Original Gangster (1991) cemented his run. He co-founded the metal band Body Count in 1990 and became a free-speech flashpoint after “Cop Killer.” Since 2000 he's played Det. Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: SVU — the longest-running male series actor in American TV history.
