Kim Renard Nazel, born in Compton and raised around music through his classically trained mother, helped found N.W.A in 1986 — producing and appearing on early cuts like “Panic Zone” and “Something 2 Dance 2” before a royalty dispute pushed him out ahead of Straight Outta Compton. He went on to a solo and production career, including the 1989 album Brother Arab, and later returned under the Professor X alias. A founding piece of the group that built West Coast gangsta rap, even after he'd left the picture.
